Low Carb Protein Shake Recipes

Your protein shakes don’t have to be boring, bland, and all taste the same. You can make your next  shake taste like dessert — while still keeping its carb content low! Here are two ideas, enjoy!

Almond Fudge Protein Shake

Ingredients

1 scoop chocolate protein powder
1/2 teaspoon xanthan gum
1 1/2 cups cold water
1 tablespoon heavy cream
1/4 cup almond Da Vinci sugar free syrup
1 capful almond extract
1/4 cup granular Splenda or stevia
Ice cubes

Directions

Combine the protein powder and xanthan gum in a bowl. Pour the water, cream, syrup, extract and sweetener into a blender. Blend for a few seconds. Add the protein powder and blend briefly. With the blender on the highest speed, start adding ice cubes, one at a time, through the top of the blender until the drink is very thick. Adjust sweetener, if necessary.

Raspberry Smoothie Protein Shake

Ingredients

1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1/2 teaspoon xanthan gum
1 1/2 cups cold water
1 tablespoon heavy cream
1/4 cup raspberry Da Vinci sugar free syrup
1 capful raspberry extract
1/2 teaspoon sugar free raspberry gelatin powder
1/4 cup granular Splenda or stevia
Ice cubes

Directions

Combine the protein powder and xanthan gum in a bowl. Pour the water, cream, syrup, extract, gelatin, and sweetener into a blender. Blend for a few seconds. Add the protein powder and blend well. With the blender on the highest speed, start feeding ice cubes, one at a time, through the top of the blender until the drink is very thick. Adjust sweetener, if necessary.

    I tried using xanthan in my shake once. It was delicious but the three hour long stomach ache was terrible. I am sure they would be just as good with out the xanathan…just not as creamy. Definitely going to try the almond fudge one this summer!

    You could also add gelatine for the same thickening affect as xanathan but without the tummy side effects. The only thing is I think gelatin taste a little longer to work
